Lesley Burr

Lesley Burr lives and works in the Shetland Islands where the unique environment and strange beauty of the northern light have become major influences in her work.  “Her sketches from life are transformed through her imagination into images that are dream-laden and filled with silence”.  Remote places, unusual landforms, the human existence and the cycles of nature are all inspirations for her work.

Trained at Glasgow School of Art and followed by the MA in Public Art and Design at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art.  She has also undertaken public commissions in hand painted tiles and mosaics.  Winner of the Laing Landscape Competition and Ruth Davidson Scholarship to South France she has exhibited and travelled widely, including China, India, Pakistan and Egypt.

Lesley was awarded the Highlands & Islands Artists Grant in 2001.
